Procedure
142 g (0.75 mol) of 2-amino-7-hydroxy-5,6-dimethyl-1,8-naphthyridine and 640 ml of acetic anhydride are boiled under reflux for 30 minutes. After the mixture has been cooled, the product is filtered off and purified by stirring with CH2Cl2 and methanol. There is obtained 64.1 g (37%) of a gray solid.
