Procedure
A mixture of 3.63 grams of 1-(2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-5-methylcarbonyloxymethylcarbonylaminopyrazole, 0.5 mL of concentrated nitric acid, and 1.53 grams (0.0150 mole) of acetic anhydride in 9.4 mL of glacial acetic acid was stirred at room temperature for two hours. This mixture was poured into ice-water, forming a yellow solid. This solid was collected by filtration and was dried to yield 3.50 grams of 1-(2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-5-methylcarbonyloxymethylcarbonylamino-4-nitropyrazole. The nmr spectrum was consistent with the proposed structure.
