To a solution of the product of Step A (650 mg, 3.96 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (20 mL), cooled to 0° C. under nitrogen, was added triethylamine (612 mL, 4.39 mmol) and a solution of tert-butyldimethylsilyl chloride (631 mg; 4.19 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (2 mL). After stirring at room temperature for 18 hours, the reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate (60 mL), washed with water, and saturated sodium bicarbonate, and then dried (MgSO4). The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to afford 1.1 g of the title compound which was used crude in the next reaction (Rf =0.45, 5% ethyl acetate/hexanes).
