Procedure
A mixture of 3.0 g. of 4-(5-hydroxypentyl)amino-7-chloro-quinoline nitrate and 20 ml. of methyl iodide is refluxed for 20 minutes. To the cooled reaction mixture is added dry diethyl ether to complete crystallization and the solids are collected by filtration, washed twice with diethyl ether and dried in a high vacuum to obtain 1-methyl-4-(5-hydroxypentyl)amino-7-chloro-quinoline nitrate iodide, m.p. 184°-186° C.(decomp).
