The same procedures as in the Step 4 of Example 1 were repeated except that 13.6 g of ethyl 2-(2,6-dichloroanilino)-phenylglycolate were employed instead of 13.0 g of methyl 2-(2,6-dichloroanilino)phenylglycolate, thereby yielding 9.7 g of 2-(2,6-dichloroanilino)phenylglycolic acid. m.p. 139°-141.5° C.
