A solution of 3-quinolineacrylic acid (63.71 g) and concentrated sulphuric acid (25 ml) in ethanol (350 ml) was refluxed for 18 hours. The product was obtained according to the procedure of Example 8 (i), giving ethyl 3-quinolineacrylate, m.p. 86.5°-88° (Ex ethanol-water).
