A solution of 331 m9 of methyl 4-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)-2-(1-methoxyethyl)-1-{4-[2-(tetrazol-5-yl)phenyl]phenyl}methylimidazole-5-carboxylate [prepared as described in Example 94(b)] in 3 ml of a 1N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide was stirred at room temperature for 2.5 hours. At the end of this time, insoluble matter was filtered off and 3 ml of 1N aqueous hydrochloric acid was added to the filtrate. The amorphous powder which precipitated was collected by filtration, to give 209 mg of the title compound, melting at 174°-185° C. (with softening).
