By a method similar to that of Example 44 condensation of 2-chloromethyl-6-[2-(2-methoxyethoxy)-ethoxy]saccharin (34 g.) and 1-phenyltetrazol-5-thiol sodium salt (0.19 g) in methyl ethyl ketone at 60° C. and purification of the product (470 mg) by column chromatography on silica gel first with dichloromethane and then with dichloromethane-acetone (up to 97:3) as eluant afforded 2-(1-phenyltetrazol-5-yl)thiomethyl-6-[2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethoxy]saccharin as an oil (390 g, 82% yield).
