A mixture of the compound of Example XV (14.2 g 0.05 mole), 5% Pd/C (50% H2O) (1 teaspoon), and anhydrous methanol (300 ml) was shaken in a Parr apparatus until the theoretical amount of hydrogen was absorbed. The catalyst was removed by filtration and washed with anydrous methanol. Gaseous HCl was introduced into the filtrate with cooling in ice. The solid was collected by filtration and washed with anhydrous ether to give 10.8 g (75%) of product. An analytical sample, m.p. 238°-239°, was obtained by drying in an Abderhalden.
