1 g. of 3-(2',4'-dibromobiphenylyl)-3-hydroxybutyric acid and 10 ml. of acetic anhydride are heated under reflux for 2 hours and the mixture is poured onto ice and worked up in the customary manner to give 3-(2',4'-dibromo-4-biphenylyl-2-butenoic acid.
