To a solution of (1R,4S)-4-[(tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino]-1-ethylcyclopent-2-ene-1-carboxylic acid (1.38 g, 5.41 mmol) in ethanol (40 mL) was added 10% palladium on carbon (200 mg). The mixture was shaken under hydrogen at 50 psi for 18 h and filtered through celite. The filtrate was evaporated in vacuo to afford the desired product (1.5 g). MS calculated for C13H23NO4: (M+H) 258.2; found 158.1 (M+H-Boc).
