A 85% w/w solution of ammonium tetraformate was prepared by the reaction of 98-100% strength formic acid (1 mole, 46 g) with concentrated aqueous ammonia solution (12.9 g solution containing 33% w/w NH3 =0.25 mole, 4.25 g).
