A mixture of 6-bromo-8-cyclopentyl-2-methanesulfinyl-5-methyl-8H-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-7-one (370 mg, 1 mmol, prepared as in Example 6 of WO 01/707041 which is incorporated here by reference) and 2-aminopyridine (140 mg, 1.5 mmol) in toluene (5 mL) was heated at 110° C. for 18 hours then cooled to room temperature. The solid formed was collected by filtration and washed with toluene, then acetone, and dried in vacuo to give 6-bromo-8-cyclopentyl-5-methyl-2-(pyridin-2-ylamino)-8H-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-7-one as a beige solid (22 mg, 30%). mp 267˜268° C. Anal. Calc'd. for C18H18BrN5O.0.33H2O: C, 53.22; H, 4.63; N, 17.24. Found: C, 52.88; H, 4.38; N, 17.04.
