(1-Benzhydryl-azetidin-3-yl)-methanol (3.07 g, 12.1 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (60 ml). The reaction was cooled to 0-5° C. and thionyl chloride (1.07 ml, 14.6 mmol) was added slowly. The reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 18 hours. The reaction was concentrated in vacuo and azeotroped with toluene (3×20 ml) to give the title compound (3.8 g, 100%) as a pale brown solid.
