Procedure
By the method of Example 1, Step E, 10.92 grams (0.046 mole) of 2,5-dichloro-3-methoxyphenylacetic acid and 40 mL of thionyl chloride were reacted in approximately 200 mL of carbon tetrachloride, yielding 11.92 grams of 2,5-dichloro-3-methoxyphenylacetyl chloride as a black oil. The IR spectrum was consistent with the proposed structure.
