Reaction Steps

1-(6-Hydroxy-1H-inden-2-ylmethyl)-4-(4-methyl-benzyl)-piperidin-4-ol (256 mg, 0.732 mmol) and Pd/C 10% (50 mg) in EtOAc (15 ml) was stirred vigorously under a hydrogen atmosphere for 24 hr at RT. Removal of the catalyst and evaporation of the solvent afforded (RS)-1-(5-hydroxy-indan-2-ylmethyl)-4-(4-methyl-benzyl)-piperidin-4-ol as a colourless oil (235 mg, 0.667 mmol, 91%), MS m/e=352.2 (M+H+).
