29.2 g of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid and 34.2 g of 2-butyloctylamine were mixed together in an open Pyrex container and placed in a microwave oven (Menumaster™3100 i; frequency 2450, power at a setting of 30%: 1400 W). After 6 irradiations of about 5 minutes (for each irradiation), the reaction mixture was dissolved in heptane and then purified on silica. 46 g (77%) of the desired amide were obtained.
