A solution of 6 g (48 mmol) of methyl-3-(cyclopropyl)acrylate (Example 1, Step 3) and 5.7 g (100 mmol) of KOH in 25 mL of MeOH and 2 mL of H2O was stirred at 40° C. for 2 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated. Addition of 2N HCl to the residue resulted in its precipitation as a white solid. The solid was collected by filtration and was washed with H2O and dried to give 4.5 g of the title compound.
