To a solution of 4-(3-bromo-2-thienyl)-1-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine (5.3 mmol) in 40 mL of 1,2-dimethoxyethane was added 4-(N-Boc-amino)phenyl boronic acid (13.8 mmol), tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0), (0.17 mmol), water (16 mL) and barium hydroxide (21.2 mmol). The reaction was heated at 80° C. for 36 h. The 1,2-dimethoxyethane was evaporated and the residue taken up in ethyl acetate and washed with water (50 mL). The crude product was purified by silica gel chromatography (0-50% ethyl acetate/hexanes) to give the title compound (40%). ESMS [M+H]+: 392.2
