5-Methoxy-2-(3-phenylchroman-7-yloxy)phenylamine hydrochloride was prepared as described for 5-methoxy-2-(2-phenylchroman-6-yloxy)phenylamine hydrochloride in Example 3(b) using 310 mg of 7-(4-methoxy-2-nitrophenoxy)-3-phenylchroman. 1H NMR (400 MHz, d6-DMSO) δ: 7.32-7.35 (m, 4H), 7.23-7.29 (m, 1H), 7.05 (d, 1H, J 8.4 Hz), 6.76 (d, 1H, J 8.8. Hz), 6.46 (d, 1H, J 2.8 Hz), 6.43 (dd, 1H, J 8.4, 2.5 Hz), 6.28 (d, 1H, J 2.5 Hz), 6.24 (dd, 1H, J 8.8, 2.8 Hz), 4.24 (dd, 1H, J 10.4, 3.4 Hz), 4.05 (t, 1H, J 10.4 Hz), 3.18 (m, 1H), 2.88-3.01 (m, 2H).
