Reaction Steps
Methane sulfonyl chloride (6.5 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of (cis)-2-(2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-4-yl)cycloprop-1-yl methanol (5.0 mmol) and triethylamine (7.5 mmol) in 50 mL of CH2Cl2 at 0° C. The resulting mixture was allowed to warm to RT and stirred for 2 h. The crude reaction mixture was then diluted with CH2Cl2 (50 mL) and washed sequentially with water (2×50 mL), saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution (2×50 mL) and then brine (1×50 mL). The organic phase was separated, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to provide 1.38 g of the desired product as an oil (quantitative yield).
