A solution of the product from step (vii) (4.50 g), cesium carbonate (4.37 g) and 2,4-dichloropyrimidine (3.00 g) in dry N,N-dimethylformamide (30 ml) was stirred for 25 hours. The reaction mixture was partitioned between ethyl acetate and water and the organic layer dried (MgSO4). Evaporation of the solvent gave an oil which was purified by column chromatography eluting with 50-100% ethyl acetate in 40-60 petroleum ether.
