Reaction Steps

The product from step (x) (2 g), N-bromosuccinamide (1 g) in dry ethyl acetate (25 ml) was irradiated at reflux with a 500 Watt halogen lamp for 1 h. The cooled reaction mixture was partitioned with dilute sodium bicarbonate solution. The organic layer collected, dried (MgSO4) and solvent removed by evaporation under reduced pressure. Yield:2.5 g The product was not purified but used directly in the next step.
