A solution of the product from step (iv) (24.36 g) and potassium hydroxide (9 g) in ethanol (250 ml) and water (20 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was suspended in water, acidified with 2N HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined extracts were washed with water and saturated brine. The organic layer was collected, dried (MgSO4) and solvent evaporated to give the subtitle product.
