Sodium borohydride (78 mg) was added to a stirred solution of the product from step (ii) (0.87 g) in dichloromethane (4 ml) and ethanol (16 ml) at 5° C. The reaction mixture was stirred for 2.5 h, warmed to room temperature and left for 2 h before a further 200 mg of sodium borohydride was added. The reaction mixture was quenched with 1M sodium hydroxide solution then partitioned between dichloromethane and water. The organic phase was washed with water, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated under reduced pressure.
