Sodium borohydride (0.159 g) was added to a suspension of the product from step (vi) (1.27 g) in methanol (20 ml) and dichloromethane (5 ml) at room temperature. After 3 h the mixture was partitioned between 2N NaOH and dichloromethane. The organic phase was collected, dried, (MgSO4) and solvent evaporated to leave a colourless foam. Yield: 1.27 g Used directly in the next step.
