4-chloro-3-nitropyridine (18 g, 0.114M) was added to a cooled solution of 10 g of potassium hydroxide and 70 mL of methanol saturated with hydrogen sulfide. The reaction stirred for 2 hours at 25° C. and the solvents were removed by vacuum. The residue was acidified and filtered. (mp. 132° C.)
