A solution of ethyl 4-(2-(1-piperidinyl)ethoxy)acetoacetate (6.46 g, 25.20 mmol) and 3-(4-pyridyl)propanol (1.9 ml, 14.49 mmol) was heated in toluene (500 ml), with azeotropic removal of ethanol, for 4 h. The solution was allowed to cool with stirring for 18 h and was then concentrated to give the title compound (8.35 g). Electrospray MS m/z 349 [M+H]+.
