2-Chlorophenylsulfonyl chloride (0.152 g; 0.72 mmol) was added to a cooled solution (ice:water temperature) of amino-3-[2-(4-cyanophenyl)ethoxy]-5-methylbenzene (0.16 g; 0.60 mmol; from Example 17(iii) above) in pyridine (5 mL), and the resultant orange solution was stirred for 4 hours. Addition of H2O (30 mL), extraction with EtOAc, drying (MgSO4), evaporation of the solvent, and purification by flash chromatography (SiO2; 25-33% EtOAc:hexane) yielded 0.20 g (78%) of the sub-title compound.
