Procedure
To an ethanolic solution (200 ml) of 1-bromo-5-methyl-4-oxo-7-trifluoromethyl-4,5-dihydroimidazo[1,5-a]quinoxaline 3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (1.8 g) was added thiourea (0.4 g). The mixture was refluxed on a steam bath for two hours. After cooling to room temperature, the precipitate was collected, taken up in chloroform and put through a short silica gel dry column (5% methanol in chloroform as eluant). From column, the product was isolated as a white solid (0.7 g, 44% yield). Recrystallized from acetonitrile, m.p. 282° C.
