29.8 g of 2-(2-chloropropyl)-4-phenyl-1(2H)-isoquinolone was mixed with 20 ml of benzylamine, and the mixture was heat-melted in a nitrogen stream. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was dissolved in methanol while hot, and the solution was poured into crashed ice. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with water, dried and recrystallized from a mixture of ethyl acetate and petroleum ether to obtain 30.2 g (82% yield) of 2-(2-benzylaminopropyl)-4-phenyl-1(2H)-isoquinolone having a melting point of 118° C.
