Reaction Steps
A mixture of 2.4 g of 4-chloro-1-(2-pyridylmethyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-c]quinoline and 50 mL of 15% ammonia in methanol was placed in a bomb and heated at 150° C. for 6 hours. After cooling, the reaction mixture was filtered. The solid was slurried with aqueous sodium bicarbonate, collected and dried to provide 1.9 g of crude product. The crude product was recrystallized from 350 mL of ethanol to provide 1.25 g of a solid, m.p. 278°-284° C. The mother liquor was concentrated to a volume of 50 mL to provide a second crop of 0.32 g, m.p. 275°-281° C. The two crops were combined for analysis. Analysis: Calculated for C16H13N5 : %C, 69.8; %H, 4.8; %N, 25.4; Found %C, 69.7; %H, 4.8; %N, 25.2.
