4-(3-hydroxy-trans-prop-1-enyl)-4-methoxy-tetrahydropyran (175 mg, 1.02 mmol), prepared as in Example 1, steps 1-3, was oxidized to the corresponding carboxylic acid by treatment with a slight excess of Jones reagent in cold acetone.
