2.23 g of N-benzyloxycarbonyl-β-alanine was coupled with 2.58 g of piperazine. The evaporation residue was suspended in THF, the undissolved material was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated. Chromatography of the residue on silica gel RP 18 using water/methanol (2-5%) gave 2.51 g of benzyl [2-(4-piperazinylcarbonyl)ethyl]carbamate, MS: 291 (M+).
