Procedure

3 g of 2-cyano-1,2,3,4,10,14b-hexahydro-pyridino[1,2-a]-dibenzo[c,f]-azepine (ax.), is dissolved in 27 ml of concentrated H2S04 and 0.3 ml of water. The solution is heated at a steambath for about 2 hours. The reaction mixture is then poured into 500 ml of water, whereupon the aqueous mixture obtained is extracted into ether.
