The appropriate keto-acid is prepared as follows. A mixture of about 6 grams of 2,3-pyrazinedicarboxylic anhydride and about 10.5 grams of 1-ethyl-2-methyl-1H-benz[g]indole is heated on a steam bath for about 24 hours. The mixture is extracted with toluene. About 2 grams of (1-ethyl-2-methylindol-3-yl)-(2-carboxypyrazin-3-yl)ketone is obtained having a melting point of 212°-213° C.
