Procedure
A mixture of 7 parts methyl 4,4-dimethylthioallophanimidate, 8 parts of t-butylisocyanate and 50 ml methylene chloride is refluxed for 2 hours. After standing overnight at room temperature, the solution is evaporated under vacuum to give a viscous oil, which solidified after trituration with petroleum-ether. Recrystallization from petroleum-ether gives methyl N-dimethylcarbamoyl-4-tert-butylthioallophanimidate, (a compound of formula I), m.p. 74°-78° C.
