Reaction Steps
One and six tenths grams of the dihydrouridine obtained above in 60 ml. of water containing 0.6 ml. of concentrated ammonia was reduced with 0.5 g. of 5% rhodium on alumina in the presence of 42 pounds of hydrogen for a period of 18 hours. The resulting material was filtered to remove the catalyst, evaporated in vacuo and then extracted in a 500 tube Craig apparatus in a system consisting of 2-butanol-water as in Example 1. In this manner, 4-hydroxy-1-β-D-ribofuranosyl-tetrahydro-2(1H)-pyrimidinone and 1-β-D-ribofuranosyl-tetrahydro-2(1H)-pyrimidinone were obtained.
