2-Benzyl-4-thiazolecarboxylic acid is converted to the methyl ester and the ester is reduced with lithium aluminium hydride in tetrahydrofurann to give 2-benzyl-4-hydroxymethylthiazole. Using this compound as the starting material in the procedure of Example 1 gives N-methyl-N'-[2-((2-benzyl-4-thiazolyl)methylthio)ethyl]-thiourea.
