Procedure
The N-[2-(cyclohexylthio)ethyl]alanine prepared in Example 2 is suspended in 210 parts of acetic acid and that mixture is treated, over a period of 20 minutes, with a solution containing 7 parts of sodium nitrite and 70 parts of water. The resulting mixture is stirred for 11/2 hours, then filtered. The filtrate is added to 2000 parts of water and extracted with methylene chloride. The organic phase is separated, washed with water, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and then evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure to afford, as an oil, N-[2-(cyclohexylthio)ethyl] -N-nitrosoalanine.
