Procedure
After cooling chlorosulfonic acid (5.5 ml, 3 eq) to 0° C. under N2, (R)-2-(6-fluoro-3,4-dihydroquinolin-1(2H)-yl)-1-(4-phenylpiperazin-1-yl)propan-1-one (1 g, 2.72 mmol) was added and then allowed to warm up to rt. The solution was poured into an ice-water mixture (250 ml), followed by an extraction with CH2Cl2 (3×100 mL). The organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and evaporated in vacuo. The crude product was used without further purification for next step. LC/MS (10%-99% CH3CN (0.035% TFA)/H2O (0.05% TFA)), m/z: M+1 obs=466.3; tR=3.49 min.
