4-(Benzyloxy)butanoic acid (5.0 g) and 2,3-diaminopyridine (1.12 g) were stirred at 150° C. for 10 hr. Under ice-cooling, to the reaction mixture was added concentrated aqueous ammonia, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate/hexane) to give the title compound (2.36 g).
