Procedure

To a mixture of 2-{3-chloro-4-[2-(2-chloro-pyridin-4-yl)-3,3,3-trifluoro-2-hydroxy-1-methyl-propyl]-benzyl}-malonic acid diethyl ester (214 mg) and NaCl (29 mg) in DMSO (4 mL) was added a small amount of water (0.011 mL). The mixture was then heated to 140° C. for 7 days. The mixture was poured into water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic extracts were washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (silica gel, gradient of ethyl acetate in heptane) to give the title compound as a colorless, viscous oil (127 mg). MS (m/e)=450.1 (MH+).
