Reaction Steps
A 10 mL round-bottomed flask was charged with 5-bromo-3-(3-methoxyphenylthio)picolinonitrile (214 mg, 0.666 mmol), 3-bromophenol (138 mg, 0.800 mmol), and DMF (6 mL). NaH (24.0 mg, 0.999 mmol) was added and reaction stirred at room temperature for 24 hours. The reaction was poured into water and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. The resulting residue was purified on silica gel (10% EtOAc in Hexanes) to afford the title compound (225 mg, 81.7% yield).
