Reaction Steps

To a cold (−78° C.) solution of EXAMPLE 83A (1.0 g) in tetrahydrofuran (10 mL) was added n-BuLi (5 mL, 2.5 M in hexane). The reaction mixture was stirred for 90 minutes, and iodomethane (1 mL) was added. The reaction mixture was stirred at −78° C. for 90 minutes and quenched by the addition of 1 drop of trifluoroacetic acid. The reaction mixture was warmed to room temperature and concentrated to dryness. The residue was used in the subsequent step without further purification.
