3,3-Dimethylbenzofuran-2(3H)-one (Example 198a, 19.7 g) was dissolved in 7N ammonia in methanol (50 mL) under nitrogen. The resulting solution was stirred at 25° C. for 16 h. The reaction mixture was evaporated to afford crude product. The solid was triturated with diethyl ether and filtered to give the subtitle compound (15.34 g).
