3,4,5-trimethoxycinnamic acid (2.38 g, 10 mmol), thionylchloride (4.72 g, 40 mmol), dichloromethane (10 ml), 4-(1-amino-2-phenylethyl)benzoic acid (2.41 g, 10 mmol), and 10 ml of 1 mol/L sodium hydroxide are used according to the method for the production of compound III in Method one to obtain 4.20 g of 4-[(3,4,5-trimethoxycinnamoyl)aminomethyl]benzoic acid (intermediate M-42) as a white solid, with a yield of 91.2%.
