To a solution of (R)-6-fluoro-7-(2-methoxypropoxy)-2-methylquinoline (0.281 g, 1.13 mmol) in dioxane (4 mL) and water (0.04 mL) was added SeO2 (0.138 g, 1.24 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated at reflux for 3 hours. After cooling, the mixture was filtered through Celite®. The filtrate was concentrated. The residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (hexanes:EtOAc, 4:1) to give (R)-6-fluoro-7-(2-methoxypropoxy)quinoline-2-carbaldehyde (0.219 g, 74%) as a solid.
