Procedure

To the product from Step A (3.0 g, 12.6 mmol) was added imidazole (1.89 g, 27.7 mmol) and CH2Cl2 (40 mL). The solution was cooled to 0° C. and then tert-butylchlorodimethylsilane (2.09 g, 13.9 mmol) was added in one portion. The reaction was gradually warmed to ambient temperature over 1 hour and then stirred overnight. The mixture was diluted with a saturated aqueous NH4Cl solution (25 mL) and CH2Cl2 (40 mL). The layers were mixed and separated and the organic layer was washed with brine and dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated. The crude product was purified by column chromatography (2 to 20% CH2Cl2/hexanes) to provide 3.36 g (76%) of the desired product as a white solid.
