A solution of benzyl 8-(1-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)piperidin-4-ylcarbamoyl)-3,4-dihydro-1H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole-2(5H)-carboxylate (8 in Scheme 1(m), 1.0 g, 1.9 mmol) and Pd/C (10% wt., 0.2 g) in MeOH (20 mL) was allowed to stir at room temperature overnight. The palladium was then removed by filtration and washed with MeOH; and the resulting clear solution was concentrated to give tert-butyl 4-(2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole-8-carboxamido)piperidine-1-carboxylate as an-off white solid (0.745 g, 100%). MS (ES) 399 (M+H).
